Common Applications Of Alnico Magnets
Alnico magnets were the first mass produced permanent magnets replacing magnetised metals and expensive electromagnets in many everyday applications. Alnico magnets maintained their position as the magnet of choice until the development of much stronger rare-earth magnets such as neodymium magnets in the 1980s.
Alnico magnets are still used for many applications which require high operating temperatures as they are much more resistant to high temperatures than their ferrite or rare-earth successors. Alnico magnets are often used in the following:
- Electric motors
- Guitar pick ups
- Microphones
- Sensors
- Engineering applications
- Travelling wave tubes
- Bearings
- Aerospace applications
- Military applications
- Education
- Heat treatment Jigs and recovery
